I went to Puerto Rico last week, and on my way to the airport saw searchers gathering to look for Leta Lynn Cordes. I was sorry to find out there was no trace of her. From what I have read, the only changes in the past week or 10 days have been that the search found a shoe which turned out not to belong to Cordes; Frank Cordes reportedly returned from the US after only a few days away and has hired a lawyer to help him get access to the surveillance tapes from the Westin and to police information about the case; a corpse smell was reported among the storage containers on the way to the Westin, the area was searched and nothing found. Here are some links:
Thursday Feb 7th, Today newspaper - Frank Cordes hired Snow, says his wife didn't go to Westin for a week previous to disappearance so if anyone had seen her recently it was the day she disappeared.Thursday Feb. 7th - SMN News by Way of SXMophile - False alarm, containers searched.
Tuesday Feb 5th - SMN News
Tuesday Feb. 5th - The Daily Herald - Frank Cordes says he had nothing to do with his wife's disappearance, wants more info from the Westin, says a security member who is also a policeman only showed tapes to one other policeman.
Mon. Feb 4th - SMN News - News of the search on the 3rd and pictures
Monday Feb. 4 - The Daily Herald - Nothing Found in search on the 3rd.
Feb. 2, The Daily Herald - Aerial mapping was done before search.Wendy from SXMophile made me aware of a video done by Zebrabot but I am not going to link to it here as it didn't add any info and in fact was.. um.. vaguely appalling.
Quotes from the video:
"if it wasn't for the dozens of hundreds of vacationers that simply go missing unreportedly every year, because they found a better lifestyle than what they know at home, then maybe we would get a little more concerned in the search a little earlier."This is a quote from basically the first minute - very defensive. And a bit hard to parse.
ZB interviewer: "Now you were on duty the night that Leta Lynn Cordes disappeared"During part of this video the interviewer actually stands in front of the Cordes house, so she does know where it is actually located. I don't know if she was just ignoring that fact for her interview with the Dawn Beach Estates guard or if she had not figured it out yet when she spoke to him.
Guard: "Yes"
ZB interviewer: "And you're with Checkmate security so you do security here in the area of Dawn Beach community"
Guard: "Only for Dawn Beach Estate"
ZB interviewer: "Only for Dawn Beach Estate, which is where she lives in the area"
Guard: "No she lives in Ocean View Terrace"
ZB interviewer: "OK which is right across the street though..."
"Traveltalkonline, the Caribbean's self-appointed gossip generator, is buzzing with opinions, that turn into observations and chewed up out as truth, lacking any facts. Human nature apparently demands an opinion, even if the facts are not available."Glass houses, stones, you know what I am saying?
"She was a very frequent visitor to the casino and let's face it she was quite noticeable."Is that really necessary? Is that a helpful thing to say?
"Or maybe it has to do with the insurance policy the couple allegedly fought over the night before her disappearance."
The reported fight over insurance took place last year in California. As far as I know the only report of a fight before Cordes' actual disappearance was made by SMN News, citing a mystery source that no other news source has found.
P.S. There is a section of the video where they do a "man on the street" interview with a man and then a woman in Philipsburg. The man interviewed, who says he does not want to say too much as he does not want to get involved, is "Suppa Kid", an excellent DJ for Laser 101. "Man on the street"... ok, well, he has a higher profile than some, but OK. However, Suppa Kid also writes for Zebrabot, he posted about the Cordes case on Jan. 30th on that site. Why not do a real interview with someone uninvolved? Why bring in a ringer?
Normally Zebrabot is a great source of information and of entertaining videos about the island. They had the opportunity to make an evenhanded, well-informed video about Cordes' disappearance, but instead aired this.

Hi! Jess
I deleted the zebrabot video off my blog. It would be best to link to it directly. I will be at Iguana's on Sunday, maybe see you there. If not stop by and say Hello.
Wendy
It's amazing and confusing!!! so many versions of the course of events do not line up, and the husband "stories" from the first one to the last are conflicting. Also there were many and many rumors, but of course they will still remain rumors unless they can be verified and confirmed by official sources. But there are some terrible, horrible and terrifying says going around among the youth local population (gang related teenagers in middle region...) of what her fate was... I am sure the authorities are investigating that way also, hopefully...
Hi Wendy, glad to know yo are coming back already, those last few weeks went very fast since I saw you last. I guess I'll see there because I am pretty sure I will be working even it is supposly my day off...LOL
Hi Wendy and Philippe: Which Iguana's are you both talking about? Guana Bay or Oyster Pond?
I am not linking to the Zebrabot video cause I think it was bad. Thanks for letting me know about it in the first place Wendy, I check their site infrequently.
Philippe your comment about rumors is ominous. I do want to know what happened to Cordes - the thought of a woman being taken from a road on this island is awful, no matter where that road was or what time it was or what she was wearing or drinking.
What sort of news outlet is zebrabot? They carry high quality video and look like a news service, but from the content it seems clear they're not.
"because they found a better lifestyle than what they know at home, then maybe we would get a little more concerned in the search a little earlier."
What are they, local tourism-centric commercial player? Anyway, appalling is right, i hope to God Frank doesn't have to see this. The man is probably going through hell right now.
Philippe, i'm not sure i agree with you the husbands stories are conflicting, rather, the media is chewing the gristle of what little information there is avaliable in this case, which leads to different interpretations of the same original story.
If you remember, the very first thing the police told Frank was not to talk to the press.
That's not to say there aren't things that seem remarkable in what has actually been said by the husband. Like Jess said in his first post on this blog, the road Leta supposedly chose to walk by herself in the dark seems downright scary.
The gangs you speak of, do they move in that neighborhood? From my viewing point on the other side of the world, the only previous info i had on SXM was what Frank and Leta had told me of the island - which they both loved passionately. Now, however, as i follow every news outlet related to SXM daily, another, way darker image is solidifying.
