The search for Leta Cordes continues

Driving through Dawn Beach today I saw a team of people in the empty lots behind the Westin, with dogs. When I passed one man on the road I asked if they were looking for Leta Lynn Cordes (a woman who went missing from the Dawn Beach area on January 11th of this year) and he said yes.

I looked on the website dedicated to the search for Cordes and though there is no announcement about another search, there is a comment from this morning which said: "Search and rescue/cadaver dog and their handler have landed safely in St. Maarten." It sounds as if this may be a search funded by family and friends, though I did see a vehicle there from the police.

I hope this search comes up with some information which will help find Leta Cordes. The lack of information is so frustrating. I can not imagine what her family and friends are feeling.

Hi Jess, The Letacordes website is not affiliated with the husband or family, so it seems. Lisa is Leta’s sister in law and requests the admin. from the website to make her comment a seperate post.
Lisa retained the services of Search and rescue/cadaver dogs and their handlers. I am wondering who is running the official Leta website, apparently not the husband or sister in Law? W

Hi Philippe, I checked out Trent's blogs, he seems nice enough and has two cute dogs...Inspector Jacques Clouseau: [Gesturing to the hotel's dog] "Does your dog bite?"
German hotelier: "No."
Clouseau goes to pet the dog; it bites him.
Inspector Clouseau: "I thought you said your dog did not bite!"
German hotelier: "That is not my dog."
See you soon, W
On the lighter side...

The Letacordes site was initiated by Letas best friend Cary Honstein. Sadly, Cary and another friend of Letas have now fallen out with Frank Cordes and other members of the family, it seems. The comments on the letacordes site pretty much sums up what the conflict is about - Cary and some other friends of Leta suspect Frank and demands he take a lie detector test.

Hi Klas: I've read about that a little. I think the pressures on family and friends in this situation must be really tough to deal with, coming as they do from both inside the group and also from external sources that no one has control over. I do admire the folks who set up this new search and hope they find some information.

No, the 'friends of Leta' have not 'fallen out with Frank.' Frank has simply become paranoid and does not like Leta's friends persevering in their attempts to find their dear friend. They have expended a great deal of time and lots of their own money trying to find Leta; while Frank simply tries to hinder all attempts to find his wife! Why?

This is Frank Cordes,

The Leta Cordes website is administered by Elaine Karas's son, Trent Lapinsky.
The "falling out" between family (I, Leta's only son, Leta's only Brother and Leta's niece) and the "group of friends" (Cary Honstein, Elaine Karas and their friends/their family) came over 3 issues:
1) Repeated accusations and insinuations in cooperation with David McGregor from the "TODAY" newspaper against me - I guess every story needs a villain.
2) The withdrawal of $7,000 from the reward fund without consent/approval from family and friends that contributed - these "figment of my imagination" funds have been paid back to their respective contributors by the group on Apr-7.
3) A negative write-up in "TODAY" which states a group member with the initials "R.B.". Leta's son's initials are "R.B.", he is however with the family instead.

These "friends" operate in coordinated and under mostly anonymous names on blogs wherever they can to make unsubstantiated claims. They have no first-hand information since the SM police is not revealing any facts or witness statements and have not returned to St. Maarten since the disappearance.
In latest write-ups they are hiding behind an attorney who also has no first hand information about the case.

My own, witnessed attempt on Mar-22 of correcting accusations on the Letacordes website was never posted since it is apparently censored by the administrator.
Anybody who attempts to write anything vindicating about me will either not be posted or will receive a lengthy reply containing new allegations to ensure a continued, suspicion-casting aura of this website - very sad.

After what I and the family have gone through over the past months loosing my wife, it is a very sad turn of events that is not helping on any front.

The family is in the progress of creating a website for the original purpose and real information sharing containing facts. We are handling this case in a more discrete way, without the drums and trumpets driving any potential perpetrator deeper into hiding.
Slip-of-the-tongue is what opened the Aruba case because individuals lowered their guard.
Besides, I do like St. Maarten and am trying to avoid to create an Aruba stigma.

Soon, there will be a much more realistic and sophisticated mechanism for claiming the family reward ($25,000). Multiple land and water search efforts have been performed for months and will continue in May - but have not been, and will not be advertised to prevent potential counter-measures (you may have seen the guy's with the bright yellow pressure tanks at the beaches).

We also need more divers with local reef- and water-current knowledge, at your own risk.

Hi folks: I normally try to respond to all comments left on this blog, but in this case I find it hard to know what to say.

I started writing posts about Leta Cordes as a way of keeping track of information about her disappearance. I'd like to continue doing so. I'd like to keep comments open. I am leaving the current comments up for now. I may have to work on a comments policy. If the tone of future comments degenerates I may close comments.

Thanks for understanding - Jess
