Where is this at? Is there a list anywhere of all the local events? (I should probably just check out the Daily Herald, but oh well).

AH, SOUSE. It was a staple growing up in my house. My dad would make a batch every new years eve, that only he and my mom would eat. Funny thing is, it smelled GREAT. And then you realized what was in it.

But they only made it on new years eve (or old years night as they would call it)...never any other day! Go figure.

But everything else on that menu sounds great. I tried to make some johnny cakes today and i JUST can't get the recipe right! it drives me INSANE!

souse is wonderful. you should try it!
it's basically a pickle made from pork...
yeah, i know, it doesn't SOUND appetizing, but it's good, believe me.

Hi all!

Anon, this is a booth at the Festival Village on St. Maarten's Day, the 11th. Gigi put up the schedule on her blog, here:

I like pickled stuff so I think I might have to try it if I find it. Might need an extra stomach to try everything!

See, the souse my parents make is like a hot stew. I find that different people have different interpretations of souse. Jess, let me know how they prepare theirs!

And have some bush tea for me. Oh, just a few weeks until my dad makes me some bush tea!!!

That's interesting, sounds very different from the pickled version, I'll have to look up more recipes!
